A history of Largs
Largs is the famous location of the "Battle of Largs" in 1263, where the Scots successfully fought off a Viking invasion. Every year around August/September, there is a Viking festival held in the town to mark this event including a recreation of a Viking village, fireworks display, fun fair and battle re-enactments culminating in the burning of a Viking longboat.
The town has embraced its fame and has built a visitor centre Vikingar in which you can learn about the Vikings and their significance of the time. The centre also has an indoor swimming pool, an indoor play area for children and an outdoor mini golf area.
Other interesting historical spots well worth a visit are the Neolithic tomb and Skelmorlie Aisle.
